Tom Arthurs and Richard Fairhurst

On Sunday July 15 trumpeter Tom Arthurs (Rising Star nominations for the BBC Jazz Award in 2004 and 2007) and pianist Richard Fairhurst (winner of the BBC Jazz Award for Best New Work in 2004) played at the Red Hedgehog in London.

This was a surprisingly intimate concert in a new and rather unusual little venue in Highgate, North London. The two musicians played works from their recent CD ‘Mesmer’, a collection of delicate, contemplative improvisations (read the allaboutjazz.com review).

Arthurs, who plays with such musicians as John Taylor, Ollie Bown (Icarus) and Not Applicable, has performed at Lantaren/Venster in March of this year. He will play at the Bimhuis during the Amsterdam Dance Event on October 19 with his band Not Applicable, featuring Ollie Bown (elecontrics), Lothar Ohlmeyer (bass clarinet) and Maurizio Ravalico (percussion).
