Vektormusik - Interfoliere EP

Vektormusik
Thomas Ahlmark and Kristoffer Jorgensen are Vektormusik

Thanks to Ollie Bown of Icarus I have discovered the foreward thinking Danish duo Thomas Ahlmark and Kristoffer Jorgensen, who as Vektormusik build delicate acoustic spaces with piano, clarinet, trumpet, drums and electronics. Their label Rump states that Jørgensen is acoustic engineer, who has studied signal processing and acoustics. Ahlmark has a degree in drumming at the music conservatory, with a master in electronic music. He has been involved in the dub-project Junkyard Productions as well as playing drums with gipsy/folk band Lé Plan while Kristoffer is a part of the free jazz project The Astro Black Freedom Orchestra.

In their clarity and instrumentation Vektormusik sounds pleasantly related to Icarus, who they regard as one of their influences. Interfoliere is more straightforwardly structured, less frenetic and ironic than what we know of Icarus. Nevertheless it is a work of elegance, gracefully interweaving instruments, samples and a strong sense of musical reference. And where the music of Icarus is constantly threatening to derail, Vektormusik creates a subtle continuum of rhythm on most of its tracks. Only on Carux they let their rhythms run free, gently syncopating a box of details. The remix of Leap2 by Japanese artist Sora is another discovery on this small musical gift.

Interfoliere was released on 18 June 2007 on Rump Recordings in a numbered limited edition vinyl of 300.

“A musical statement from the slowland” (Rump)

“Rump Recordings returns with another finely crafted piece of digital warmth, this time courtesy of Vektormusik” (Boomkat)
