Dubstep documentary: Eyes Down
The world’s most revered dubstep night DMZ meets its American counterpart Dub War. This all took place last June in New York. “Simple things occur. Ya hear big rhythms… you kick out your foot… you loosen up your elbow. Simple things. Strictly for the skankers come to skank in the darknes. Eyes down.” DMZ evangelist Sgt Pokes on the mic. Darkness is functional at a dubstep dance. It’s an architecture of comfort for those reluctant to dance in front of their peers. Darkness relaxes and takes away social boundaries, making it possible to concentrate on the music. Thát, and a good bottom end, is what DMZ is about.
“We just come to play music. There’s no bullshit. We just want to have a good system, we just want to put out wave bass, make people close their eyes, dance… it’s not about the man next to you, it’s about the individual experience.”
