Enter Bristol…
With London in the spotlight, over the past few years dubstep has slowly been progressing from a minimal, half-time future dub into a synth-laden, pumped up hypergarage. If Loefah and Digital Mystikz represented the former in 2005/2006, Rusko, Skream and Caspa represent the latter.
In the shadows of this evolution from meditation to exaltation, the United Kingdom’s second bass-city has appeared on the radar of many radio DJs, promotors and journalists. Headed by main figures Pinch and Peverelist, and inspired by legendary veteran and cult-figure RSD, relatively unknown producers as Forsaken, Hyetal, Gatekeeper, Wascal and Joker have been delivering one direct hit after another. Ranging from experimental 8-bit beats to gentle bass modulation, these producers have released works on local labels as Punch Drunk and Earwax.
On Friday 14 March Amsterdam will get the chance to hear three of these producers from Bristol: Joker, Forsaken and Hyetal. They will be accompanied by recent Hyperdub signing Zomby. The night is called Lockdown, and will take place at the Flexbar.
