24 Hour Drone People performance in Stockholm

Next week will be an exciting one for those with an interest in sound art and experimental music. On Saturday 23 February in Fylkingen (Stockholm), a group of 12 renowned artists will commence on an epic journey lasting 24 hours in total. The group performance, aptly titled 24 Hour Drone People (a play on the film by Michael Winterbottom), will consist of 12 artists playing two hours each, ’separated and joined by time for 24 hours.’

The participating artists are Stephen O’Malley (US), Hildur Gudnadottir (IS), C. Spencer Yeh (US), Hild Sofie Tafjord (NO), Jacob Kirkegaard (DK), BJNilsen (S), CM Von Hausswolff (S), Mark Wastell (UK), Mika Vainio (SF), Jean-Louis Huhta (S), Henrik Rylander (S) and Joachim Nordwall (S).

The performance is curated by Nordwall, and inspired by the work ‘Draw a straight line and follow it’ by La Monte Young (Composition 1960 # 7). In an attempt to challenge time, tradition & future, they state their ambition as follows:

Celebrating Music of Long Duration
Celebrating The Skull of La Monte Young
Celebrating The Drone
Celebrating Time
Celebrating The Beauty of Tradition
Celebrating The Power of Progress
Celebrating The 24 Hour Drone People

The performance will be accompanied by an installation by Johannes Heldén (S), talks with the artists, and lots of traditional Scandinavion spirits. Those we cannot make it to Stockholm, there will be a downsized performance at the Sonic Acts Festival on Thursday 21 February at the Paradiso in Amsterdam.
