Here today, gone tomorrow (but back next year)

In a candid email, 11 programmer Olaf Boswijk announced that 11 will officially close on 28 June 2008:
«It’s really happening: our days are numbered - just another 46 to be precise. At the start we were looking forward to a period of two years, yet that actually became slightly more than four. Now the landlord has decided not to extend the rental contract any longer and so we are looking at the unavoidable climax that is about to happen.»
And a climax it will be for those involved: 11 nights of out-of-the-box programming for the organisations who made 11 one of the most vibrant places to visit at night. Perhaps the music has not always been the most diverse, with a strong focus on minimal techno, electronica and in recent months dubstep, the architecture and the spectacular view have always made a visit worthwhile.
«It is with some pride that we look back on what was a very special period of life together here on the 11th floor of the Post CS building. Started up as the ‘catering facility for the Stedelijk Museum‘, 11 grew to be the best discovery and the greatest catalyst in Post CS, with an international image that was unheard of in Amsterdam, a unique kaleidoscope of activities in the area of electronic music, video, contemporary art, culture and good food. More than a million visitors found their way up to 11.
It’s been too much, too diverse, too intense to sum up here - moreover the best is yet to come - so we shall confine ourselves to announcing that the end is near: 11 will finally close its doors at dawn on the last night of all - Saturday 28th June.»
In those last days, the Viral Radio Festival 2008 will be organised, a unique collaboration between 11 and the adjacent Bimhuis.
«All in all It’s been great and it’ll be even more stunning during the coming weeks (just you see!). So come on up for the last time before it’s too late…»
