Generation Bleep

Beat Dimensions

If there is one development that has been steadily appearing on radars around Europe in recent months it is the Beat Generation of Flying Lotus, Hudson Mohawke, Zomby, Dimlite, Cinnaman and Rustie. With releases on Warp (FlyLo, HudMo), Hyperdub (Rustie, Zomby) and Rush Hour (the prescient Beat Dimensions series) these Wonderboys of bleeps are re-contextualizing hip hop, crunk, dubstep and pre-Wii game music.

The quality of the music is a complex coming together of degrooved rhythmstructures and gliding 8-bit melodies, creating a rich echo chamber of familiar (and sometimes nostalgic) electronic sounds with slowed down hyperrhythms. Utterly undanceable, yet pleasantly urgent. Played on a good system, you somehow move.

Generation Bleep is a new night in Amsterdam that will join Beat Dimensions and Viral Radio in the further exploration of the beat. The first night will take place tonight with DJs Cinnaman, Aardvarck and Juha.
