An Ocean of Rain, a new opera by Yannis Kyriakides

Tonight will be the Dutch premier (and only Amsterdam) show of the new opera by Greek-Dutch composer Yannis Kyriakides at the Muziekgebouw aan ‘t IJ. It is an experimental opera for five singers, ensemble and choir by the Ensemble MAE and the Scottish Theatre Cryptic. It tells of the interwoven lives, dreams and secrets of five women (a nun, a doctor, an architect, an archaeologist and a prostitute) in an orphanage on Haiti. Surgically killed by the Guardian after its premier at the Aldeburgh festival, this work has had mixed receptions.

The opera will be performed two more times in Rotterdam.
